Abstract : | The work is based on data on daily precipitation sums obtained from nine Meteorology and Water Management Institute (IMGW) stations located in central-eastern Poland recorded from 1971 to 2005. The following lengths of periods without precipitation were identified: 11-15, 16-20 and over 20 days. The number of periods without precipitation during the growing season differed substantially in central-eastern Poland from 1971 to 2005. On average, from 1.9 to 3.2 periods without precipitation in the growing season occurred in the study period in Ostrołęka and Siedlce, respectively. The most frequent non-rainfall periods in the study area were 11-15 days long and the least frequent 16-20 days long. In general, periods without precipitation, regardless of their duration, occurred most frequently in April and least frequently in July. Central part of the study area was most likely to be affected by such periods whereas in the north-eastern part periods which were longer than 20 days were least common. There was no significant tendency for change in the number of periods without precipitation during the growing season. However, some cyclic nature of their occurrence in consecutive years was noted. |
