Abstract :

A field experiment was carried out in 2008-2010 on a soil of the very good rye complex. The experiment was set up in the split-plot design as a two-factorial, three-replication trial. The factors examined were as follows: factor I – potato cultivars: Cekin, Satina, Tajfun, factor II - weed control methods involving the application herbicides and their mixtures: Command 480 EC, Command 480 EC and Afalon Dyspersyjny 450 SC, Stomp 400 SC, Stomp 400 SC and Afalon Dyspersyjny 450 SC, and control object – mechanical weeding. Mechanical-chemical treatments for herbicides and their mixtures contributed to a decrease of external defects and internal defects and mass of small tubers and mass tubers with defects as compared to the control object with mechanical weeding. There were determined differences of mass of small tubers and mass of tubers with defects. The lowest (4.78 t ha-1) and the highest (6.46 t ha-1) average side tuber yields were recorded  for cultivars Cekin and Satina, respectively. Meteorological conditions in the study years significantly affected the occurrence of defects of tubers.
