Abstract :

A study was conducted on the physical status of soils of the manor park in Kozłówka, Province of Lublin, Poland. The soils represented Anthrosols (3 pedons) and Technosols (2 pedons). Samples for analyses were taken from three horizons (0-10, 20-30 and 40-50 cm) into metal cylinders with volume of 100 cm3. The analyses included determination of bulk density of the soils, solid phase density and water capacity at various states of soil water potential. Data were used to calculate the total porosity, water retentions: gravitational, available for plants, productive and unavailable for plants, as well as the air capacity in the state of field water capacity. Analysing the physical properties of the soils we can conclude that the Anthrosols most frequently showed a better physical status than the Technosols. Decidedly the best set of physical features among the Anthrosols was presented by the layer of 0-10 cm – soil density was very low, total porosity very high, field water capacity (m3 m−3) very high and high, retention of water available for plants (m3 m−3) very high, field air capacity very high and high. The layer of 0–10 cm of the Technosols should also be evaluated positively – soil density was very low and low, total porosity very high and high, field water capacity (m3 m−3) was high, retention of water available for plants (m3 m−3) high and medium, field air capacity high.
